Friends of mine are expecting their second child and as they already have a boy, they wanted to know the sex of their second child so that they could get organised with regards to decorating and buying basic things required for when the baby was born.  It is a personal choice now that knowing is an option and personally - I think it does spoil the surprise.  The announcement made when the baby is born is not quite the same when the sex of the child is already known along with the name!

Some people are never satisfied waiting until Santa delivers their Christmas presents they just want to know everything now.

I personally chose not to know either of my children's sex before birth and I am secretly disappointed when I hear my friends have succumbed to the modern urge to be in control of everything.

Nature has a way of balancing everything out and what if people selectively decide to abort because they get the wrong result?

Maybe we should just start choosing them from catalogues with the correct image to suit our wardrobes?

I always thought that we should wait and be grateful whatever we were given, that is until I became pregnant and found out I was going to have twins.

I asked what sex they were and I am so glad I did because I found out I was being blessed with one of each sex. From the moment I found out, my children were given names and whenever I spoke to them called them by name.

I think thought, that every women should do what she feels is right for her.

Twins run in my husband's family so the surprise of one or two was already ruined by the scan - the next time we're having no scans, although I may have an inkling as to numbers before the birth!  We never wanted to find out the gender as guessing is so much fun.

I can understand why some people would want to find out, but I think we shouldn't be able to.  Mostly because gender disappointment happens less often when you see a baby rather than just a swollen belly and a scan picture, also couples who want only one gender won't be tempted to harm their unborn child.  Plus, so many surprises are gone as you know how any babies you are having, can see the face et cetera, it's nice to have a surprise to look forward to!

Hugs!
Terri

IF I COULD TELL YOUTHE WINNING 6 LOTTO NUMBERS WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW?

IT MAY BE WRONG BUT YOU WOULD ACCEPT THE MONEY HAPPILY, I KNOW I WOULD AS IT WOULD CHANGE MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER.

WHEN MY PARTNER AND I WENT FOR OUR SCAN WE SAW THE SEX OF OUR LITTLE BOY BY ACCIDENT AS HE WAS QUITE HAPPY TO DISPLAY HIS CROWN JEWELS FOR ALL TO SEE AND GUESS WHAT, IT DIDN,T MATTER. HE CAME ALONG AND WE LOVE HIM DEARLY. WHY DOES IT MATTER WHAT SEX YOUR CHILD IS. SHOULD YOU HAVE A CHILD IF THIS BOTHERS YOU.

ALL I KNOW IS OUR SON HAS MADE OUR WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU EXPECTANT PARENTS AND GRAND PARENTS. WHEN THEY COME ALONG JUST LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND SEE THE SMILE ON YOUR FACE.

I didn't want to know what sex my children were before they were born, my brother and sister in law announced they were expecting and told everyone the sex of the baby and her name, the surprise was marred and the fun of expecting the baby was spoiled as we were just waiting for Emily to be born, not excited to learn who was coming.

A supply midwife let slip I was having a boy the second time ( I already had a daughter) I was not bothered as long as i had a healthy baby and my husband was of the opinion that you dont count your chicks till they've hatched so he wasn't over excited until they were born safely anyway.

Its ok if there's a health problem to do with the sex of a child in case you can decide how to proceed, for example certain diseases only effect boys, you may need to be prepared for the  problems and some people may not want to have to cope with a problem it is a personal decision.

i also think that the sex of a baby should be a surprise, the only time anything is to be gained by knowing the sex prior to birth is for medical reasons, as for "getting thngs ready for a specific sex" a baby needs to be fed and kept clean and warm and it is not necessary to do this in a blue or pink environment !

i have three little girls and with the first two we thought we were having boys and so we were really surprised when they both turned out to be of the pink variety i wasn't bothered either way but i always felt i was having boys,so when i found out i was having another baby which was a total shock to me as we never planned more than two,and we had got rid of all the baby stuff we had ,we had to start all over again and so we decided to find out the sex of our baby BUT when we told our friends and relatives we knew we gave them the choice of either to know or not to know which we thought was a fair way of doing it.we were as it was having yet another little girl but we never named her until we saw her just in case her name didn't suit her,so i do thinks it a personal choice for the parents and there situation but maybe give other the option of whether to know or not.

Totally agree with you, Kit. My cousin can't have girls due to genetic complications, in cases like this you should know the sex of your baby, I don't see the big deal of needing to know before the baby is born. I didn't want to know the sex of either of my children, I love surprises too much! When I was pregnant with my second child I was given an inkling by the sonographer that I was having a boy, although I was displeased by finding out like this, I wasn't disappointed when my 9lb5oz daughter was safely delivered 13 days late
