really entertaining family film with great special effects and a story that made the 2+ hours fly!

| I found the film really good and it kept the children glued to the screen. The initial screens were a tad on the dark side, visually, and you felt you were peering into the gloom. Good all round entertainment for the family though.

My family and I saw and thoroughly enjoyed the Golden Compass . The "effects" were great, although some younger children may find some scenes a bit scary - there seemed to be conflicting age certificates ranging from PG to 12A - do bear in mind that it is part of a trilogy so there is no real ending as such.

| I found the Golden Compass like the Harry Potter films - you needed to know the story already, you needed to have read the books. As I'd not read the his Dark Materials trilogy, it wasn't that fun as it was constantly trying to keep up and wondering why this was happening - and being frustrated because I knew the book would have been better! Again, I preferred the original novel of Stardust, although Robert di Nero's sky captain is a LOT better in the film!
