I was the opposite, I had absolutely no self-confidence at all when I was in my teens, even had a school report that said I had an 'inferior complex'.  My confidence came later and was self-taught really for the various jobs that I have done over the years - such as standing in front of an audience at a function to do a talk for the charity I used to work for (nerve shattering!).  I'm still not the most confident person but better than I used to be.  There are lots of books available now that help with confidence and being assertive. Website searches, local book shops or even your library should be able to help you with these.

I never had any confidence throughout my whole childhood and teenage years...  Now people tend to think I'm a bit cocky - I'm actually not I'm quite shy but I got so sick of being trampled, passed over, ignored and generally mistreated that I ended up to where I am now; I say it how I see it and don't hold back.  I'm not rude or impolite, I've got plenty of manners and wouldn't want to upset anyone, but there's no point letting people put you down, it only makes you miserable!

I hope you're able to sort out your confidence issues soon!

1 Hubby, 4 Sons....

Help!!!

Hello, i'm new to this forum, so please forgive me for coming straight in.
I agree with all the above. Now i tend to live one day at a time, and try not to get stressed out.
Make time for yourself and biggest one of all is learn how to chill out. I have learnt that if people have a problem with me, then it's their fault not mine.

Hi Tracey,

Sorry to hear you've lost your confidence, do you mean in general? or in a particular situation?  Has it happened gradually or can you think of certain events that have triggered it?

I think the self help books and internet searches are a good idea as mentioned earlier by another member.....some sites for starters could be:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/confidence/

http://www.selfesteem4women.com/?ad=7

I hope you find something to help

Bex

I am 25 and I have absolutely no confidence at the moment, I feel fat and yukky but I have joined weight watchers now so hopefully I will start to feel better about myself, both inside and out

Hi girls

I'm 26 and had loads of confidence issues growing up.  What helped me was just getting away from the people who told me my ideas were foolish, my conversation dull and uninteresting, my outfits ugly and my face and figure needed much improvement.  As soon as I left home and stopped hearing this I started to feel better about myself, but still dread seeing my mother and sister because they try to make me feel worthless again.

Aside from getting away from the negativity, I would look in the mirror every morning when I awoke and every night before bed and tell myself that I was an attractive, intelligent woman who was just plain fab.  My husband (we weren't even dating at this point!) and his friends also helped by when he noticed I finally had opinions he would ask me what I thought on various topics and appear to take my ideas seriously.

I now make sure I tell my son how much I adore him every day, how fab he is and that anyone who disagrees is just silly.

Hugs!
Terri
